AlgoRhythms – Creating custom drum sounds

Today me and Isaac have been in the Music Studio recording some sounds we are gonna use in our AlgoRhythms project. Special thanks to Mihail Sustov for the technical support! 🙂
We are really looking forward to apply these sounds to our funny toy drumkit… The project is moving on step by step. Soon more, keep following us!

AlgoRhythms – First whole drum kit test

Third day of technological tests related to the project ‘AlgoRhythms’. This morning, me and Isaac prototyped the electronic system with Arduino to trigger the whole toy drumkit. We also attached some quickly generated sounds to the trigger using Processing. The result was pretty interesting, even though we still have a lot of work to do. The sound managing system is not very accurate yet, but it’s quite normal as it was just the first total implementation and we didn’t focus on User Experience. This is gonna be the next step: making the drumkit responsive enough to deliver a really awesome UX. So let’s continue… work hard, play hard! 😉

AlgoRhythms – Alternative technological tests

Back again with the musical instruments hacking project! Today me and Isaac have been doing some tests with alternative technologies. We thought ‘Hey, come on… Why not making the drumkit sound without actually having a drumkit there?’. And that’s what we have been working in.

We’ve been the whole afternoon combining our electronical stuff with Arduino, Processing and… Paint. Yes, paint! We’ve painted ourselves the sensors with conductive paint (by http://www.bareconductive.com, great stuff!). So yeah… This is another option for our project: why not making non-musical objects sound musically? Let’s keep working and see where it goes… 😉

Analogic vs. Digital? NEVER! Analogic+Digital

This week I’ve started working in a project around the topic of the potential of digital revolution with my mate Isaac Massot (www.isaacmassot.com, check it!). We both are really concerned about how people see new technologies. It’s quite common that digital stuff is seen as bad, dangerous… Also as something against creativity. And it’s ABSOLUTELY NOT like this! By giving digital technology its proper use (don’t forget it, it’s not a mean but a tool!) we can achieve great stuff. For example, increasing the potential of both people and objects. Or what’s even more interesting, connecting people from allover the world. This means that we can connect talent, and this is awesome.

So yeah… what are we actually doing with this concept? In fact it’s quite funny. Few days ago we went to Primark and found a really silly toy drumkit (you can see me playing with it in the photo). As we are real geeks, we bought it and… Boom! The idea of hacking it and turning it into an awesome electronic music instrument came to us. That was it! We thought it would be a funny way to show people our opinion about the potential of technology: turning that shitty drumkit into an amazing musical instrument. So that’s what we are gonna do. We’ll keep you informed! 😉
